The Corry family has shared a long association with the Mackay Cycling Club, spanning more than 70 years and several generations. John Corry first rode with the club in the 1950s and continued racing through the 1960s, 1980s and 1990s. His contribution extended beyond racing, and during the 1980s John helped organise the club’s regular weekend races held on Maraju–Yakapari Road.
Len Corry continued the family’s involvement, racing with the Mackay Cycling Club throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He also played an important role behind the scenes, serving as the club handicapper from 1995 to 2000. In the early 1990s, the next generation followed, with Evan and Ryan Corry both beginning their cycling careers with the Mackay Cycling Club. Evan went on to race in Victoria and internationally in New Caledonia and Belgium, while both brothers remained closely connected to cycling in Mackay.
Today, Evan and Ryan are owners of Corry Cycles, continuing the family’s connection with the local cycling community through the bicycle industry and their support of local riders and events. From John’s involvement in the 1950s through to the present day, the Corry family’s relationship with the Mackay Cycling Club has encompassed racing, race organisation, handicapping and ongoing support for cycling in the Mackay region.
