Born from a love of bikes. Built in Mackay.

Corry Cycles began in September 2007 when brothers Evan and Ryan Corry decided to turn a lifelong passion for cycling into a bike shop of their own.

And when we say they built a bike shop, we mean it.

The brothers built the original store themselves at the rear of Dixon Homes at 118A Sydney Street, Mackay. It wasn't a polished corporate bike store or part of a national chain. It was a locally owned shop started by two brothers who loved riding, racing and working on bikes.

Nearly two decades later, those same values remain at the heart of Corry Cycles.

We ride bikes. We race bikes. We fix bikes. And we believe a good bike shop should be part of the community it serves.

From a backyard bike shop to a Mackay institution

The first Corry Cycles store opened in September 2007.

Less than a year later, the 2008 Mackay floods devastated the shop, inundating the business and forcing Evan and Ryan to effectively start again.

But Corry Cycles survived.

In 2010, the business moved to Discovery Lane, followed by another move to Kay Court in 2012, as the shop continued to grow.

In 2017, Corry Cycles moved into its current home at 3/76 Gordon Street, Mackay, with a larger showroom, professional workshop and space for a much greater range of bikes, parts, accessories and cycling equipment.

Today, Corry Cycles remains proudly locally owned and operated, offering everything from kids' bikes and recreational bikes through to mountain bikes, road bikes, BMX, e-bikes and high-performance equipment, backed by an experienced workshop and qualified mechanics.

We weren't just selling bikes. We were racing them.

Cycling has always been part of the Corry family.

When Corry Cycles opened in 2007, Evan and Ryan weren't simply bike-shop owners—they were active racing cyclists.

In the same year the shop opened, Evan won the 2007 Fred Icke Memorial Creswick Road Open in Victoria.

The following year he headed overseas, racing in the traditional heartland of road cycling in Belgium in 2008, as well as competing in the Tour of New Caledonia in 2008 and again in 2010.

Evan also competed in Australia's legendary Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Classic five times, while Ryan completed the famous race once.

Both Ryan and Evan have competed in the famous "Croc Trophy MTB race in 2012" Evan completing it again in 2022.

Those experiences shaped Corry Cycles. The knowledge behind the counter didn't come solely from catalogues and product training—it came from thousands of kilometres of riding, racing, crashing, repairing bikes and learning what actually works.

More than a bike shop

For us, bicycles have always been about more than selling bikes.

They're a way of bringing people together.

In 2011, Evan established the River 2 Reef Ride with the aim of encouraging active living while raising money for local charities. The event grew into one of Mackay's major annual cycling events, supporting CQ Rescue and Mackay Sporting Wheelies/Disabled Sport & Rec Mackay. The event's own history confirms that it was established by Evan through Corry Cycles with those community objectives.

Over its history, River 2 Reef has helped raise more than half a million dollars for local causes.

What began as an idea to get Mackay riding became something much bigger: thousands of people on bikes, local businesses working together and money being returned to organisations that make a genuine difference in our region.

And the connection continues today—the 100 km River 2 Reef ride carries the Corry Cycles Gran Fondo name.

Taking cycling into the mountains

In 2013, Corry Cycles helped create another event—this time taking riders away from the streets of Mackay and into the spectacular mountains and rainforest around Eungella.

The Mackay Mountain Marathon (MMM) grew into a challenging mountain-bike event that attracted riders from across Queensland and beyond.

Corry Cycles has continued to organise and support the event from 2013 to the present day, helping showcase both mountain biking and one of the most spectacular parts of the Mackay region.

A new chapter

In 2024, Corry Cycles entered the next stage of its story when Mark Querl, Zac Schwarzrock and Brendan Hoban joined Evan and Ryan as owners of the business.

The ownership group brought together decades of cycling, mechanical, retail and local knowledge while keeping Corry Cycles exactly what it has always been:

A locally owned Mackay bike shop run by people who actually ride bikes.

From helping a child choose their first bike, to getting someone back on the road for their morning commute, preparing a mountain bike for the trails or building a high-end race bike, we believe the advice you receive should come from experience.

Still riding. Still local.

A lot has changed since Evan and Ryan opened that little shop behind Dixon Homes in 2007.

We've survived a flood.

We've moved shops three times.

We've raced bikes around Australia and overseas.

We've built and repaired thousands of bikes.

We've helped create some of Mackay's biggest cycling events.

We've helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for our community.

And somewhere along the way, that little bike shop became part of Mackay's cycling story.

But the basic idea behind Corry Cycles hasn't changed much at all.

Good bikes. Good advice. Good people. And a better cycling community.
